Legatia Series

The widely-acclaimed Legatia Series is Hybrid Audio Technologies “Stage III” product line; our original product offered starting in 2006, and competition-proven worldwide; the product that defined the company and its quality.  Legatia is a truly high-end approach to in-car sound quality and acoustical performance.  We know Legatia is not for everyone; it’s for those that want the very best in their car audio speakers and have refined listening habits.  Irrespective of price, Legatia components are the finest car audio speakers available, and are eclipsed only by our Stage IV Special Edition Series, and the Stage V Legatia Pro series, detailed below.

In the Legatia line, we offer the Legatia L3 (a 3.7-inch O.D. midrange), Legatia L4 (a 4.65-inch O.D. midrange), the Legatia L6 (a 7.1-inch O.D. midrange/midbass), and the Legatia L8V2 (an 8.8-inch O.D. midrange/midbass).  In addition to the midranges and midbass’ offered, we are pleased to introduce our Legatia L1V2, the second generation of the highly-acclaimed Legatia L1 tweeter.  The L1V2 is a 20mm soft-dome tweeter housed in a fully machined aluminum body, having spring-loaded terminals for ease of connection.  The Legatia range is capped off with the L2x, a bi-amplified two-way crossover that, like the Clarus competition crossovers, re show-worthy networks consisting of the highest-grade parts and nickel-plated spring-loaded terminals.  A Legatia L3x, a three-way bi-amplified crossover will be available soon.

Legatia products are sold in a la carte speaker pairs allowing the end-user to design a custom “bespoke” system of Legatia products, or a combination of Legatia and other Hybrid Audio Technologies product offerings.  A multitude of possible two-, three-, and four-way systems can be assembled using Legatia products.  Please click on the images below to be taken to the PDF specification sheet for that product.

The Legatia L8V2
– A Brief History
The Legatia L8V2’s topology is an enhanced “version 2” of the massively successful ‘original’ first generation Stage III Legatia L8 transducer, which was first launched in September 2007 to an enthusiastic reception of car audio competitors, enthusiasts, and car audiophiles.  In the years since its inception, the L8 midbass has been included in  several International Auto Sound Challenge Association (IASCA®) national and world championship vehicles; the L8 was debuted initially by David Brooks in competition, and the first generation L8 went undefeated in organized competition its first and second seasons, including the seasonending championships in 2007 and 2008.
When it came time to enhance the L8, we were very cognoscente of the L8’s midbass abilities, and had two general project objectives: 1) enhance the L8’s ability to effectively reproduce a wider frequency spectrum for possible application as a dedicated midrange in a two way application, and 2) to maintain, if not enhance the L8’s loweroctave authority and impulse response through more displacement and lighter moving mass.  The Legatia L8V2 joins Hybrid Audio Technologies’ Legatia L1V2 as the second driver in the Legatia series to be enhanced with performance eclipsing the first iteration of each design.
To this end, the L8V2 development began in January 2010, and the first prototypes were developed by company founder and lead designer Scott Buwalda.
By Fall 2010, a beta prototype pair of Legatia L8V2’s had been refined after hundreds of hours of testing and development; these highlyevolved drivers were sent to Jim Becker and Jorge Juaristi, both multiple IASCA and USACi champions for final testing, evaluation, and debut in organized competition.  After countless hours testing on the  speakers under various circumstances, both as a dedicated midbass and as a midbass/midrange in twoway configuration, Juaristi and Becker gave their final approval.  Production refinements were Fall of 2010, to incorporate features inclusive and proprietary to the SE line, and final production commenced November 2010.  launched in December 2010 and is the reference 8.85inch driver in Hybrid Audio’s Stage III product category known collectively as the Legatia Series.
